I think about this from time to time, because I remember Obama's comments in 2012. I recall thinking the same as him, at the time, and now realizing how wrong I was. Part of the issue was being glib for the sake of political point scoring. Part of the issue (I hope you'd admit) is the benefit of hindsight from the past ten years. Either way, the call to "prudent skepticism" is a good one!
